There are two types of Termites that are a concern to property owners. They are Drywood Termites and subterranean Termites. Subterranean termites live in the ground and enter the structure through earth to wood contact and will even through cracks or conduit openings in slab foundations. Drywood Termites however live in wood that contains very little moisture (less then 12%) they do not make mud tubes, if Termites are swarming out of the wood it means that the colony is at least 3-4 years old and each colony can be up to 2000 with several colonies invading the same structure. Subterranean termites can be numbered in the 10s of thousands. Both types cause extensive damage to structures.
